Why Abound Performance Physical Therapy?

I’ve learned a lot since starting this business and one of my first lessons was how to rely on others. When coming up with a business name, I was recommended to ask friends to brainstorm names. After several weeks, I had about 15 different options with 5 that really stood out.
Our friend Patti had come up with Abound along with several others, but that name continued to stand out to me. I wanted a name that was a short word so people could say, “Hey, I go to Abound” so it was an easy and memorable for people to share when chatting with friends. But I had to ask myself a deeper question: What does the name mean?
For me, the word Abound evokes meanings of abundance, possibilities, potential, overflowing, and more than enough. One of the core values of Abound is that it would be an abundant environment in which both therapist and patient can thrive and grow. Too often I have seen and experienced workplaces where the clinicians are merely surviving, and because of this, their patients are receiving lower quality care. My desire is that Abound would be an exception among medical facilities by being a place that prioritizes patient and therapist health.
I also decided to include Performance in the name for several reasons. As some of you know, we are an out-of-network Physical Therapy clinic, meaning we do not bill through insurance, although patients still may have out-of-network benefits through their insurance. A main reason we decided to go this route is because often insurance regulations only allow for treatment until the patient is out of pain and back to basic life, however, much of life is beyond simply being able to reach overhead or get up from a chair.
Over the years, many of my patients have wanted to return to running, sports, weightlifting and other high-level activities, but insurance will not cover exercise and fitness programs that prepare patients to be performance ready. If a patient wanted to hike mountains again, I could return them to walking and even hopping, but we were not able to progress beyond that. If a patient wanted to play tennis again, I could get their shoulder pain free, but I couldn’t strengthen them enough to ensure their problem wouldn’t reoccur. And so, we adopted an out-of-network model so we can help patients reach their goals—both to rehab their problems and fully return to fitness activities and athletics.
In starting Abound, my goal has been to create a healthy medical environment. Too often patients experience environments that feel like a medical factory, where they are passed from one clinician to another with little continuity or personalized care. And too often the therapists feel like cogs in that factory, prevented from treating patients to their fullest capacity and overextended until they have nothing left to give. At the heart of Abound, our desire is for patients to reach possibilities and potential beyond what traditional PT can supply and for therapists to thrive and be able to treat patients at the highest level of their training.
Abound Performance Physical Therapy is located in Colorado Springs, CO and treats active and athletic adults who want to get back to the active lifestyle and sports they love. Want to learn more?
